Degree Map
The African and African American Studies major provides students with a grounding in the intellectual and historical trends of African and African American culture, as well as the opportunity to conduct advanced research.

Select 24 credits of electives from:
History and Social Sciences: 9 credits (African and African American Studies, History, Political Science, and Psychology).
Humanities and Fine Arts: 9 credits (African and African American Studies, Art, English, and Music).
Additional Electives: 6 credits (Social Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts, or other).
18 of the 24 elective credits must be at the 300 or 400 level. Electives approved for credit toward the major or minor are listed on the Department’s web site. AFRI 250 may be repeated twice for credit toward the major.
