ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
The Department of Teaching and Learning prepares students for professional careers in education. This includes undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs in elementary teaching, early childhood education, special education, secondary education, and curriculum and instruction. To add depth of knowledge, the department provides interdisciplinary studies, working with teaching majors across campus to ensure the success of the teaching candidate.
The teacher preparation program at Indiana State University has been approved by the Indiana Department of Education and by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Graduates of Indiana State University who successfully complete the teacher licensing programs and the appropriate state-required tests may be qualified for initial practitioner teaching licenses in Indiana. Please check with the Education Student Services office for specific licensing information.
Experiential Learning
Elementary Education – The Elementary Education major at Indiana State University is highly experiential with opportunities for students to engage with teachers and students in the classroom throughout the major. The culminating experience for Elementary Education is a semester of student teaching.
