Learning Outcomes  
This program prepares individuals to teach students all subject matter in the elementary grades.  Throughout the program you will gain the professional knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to become a highly effective elementary classroom teacher and informed decision-maker about elementary curriculum and instruction.

Required Subject Matter (26 credits minimum):


A grade of C or better is required in each course as well as a minimum grade point average of 2.5. An approved Fine Arts class (ART 151 or ARTE 390) 3-4 credits. An approved History class (HIST 213) restricted to Elementary Education majors.

Professional Education Component (56 credits minimum):


The professional education component in elementary education consists of a sequential pattern of course work integrated into phases. Each subsequent phase has the previous phase as a prerequisite. Prior to enrolling in Phase II, the student must have been admitted to Becoming a Complete Professional I. Early and continuous experiences with children in school settings are included throughout the professional education component and are an integral part of the professional courses. These practicum experiences are required to successfully complete each professional course, but do not carry course credit. A grade of C or better is required in each course as well as a minimum grade point average of 2.5.

Degree Map


This program has the following minimum GPA requirements: 2.50 overall GPA. If Non-Native Language is required, that must be completed in addition to the schedule below. Students who are admitted to the University in good standing and who have satisfactorily completed all prerequisites may apply for admission to the educator preparation program BCP I.
