Gerontology Minor

Gerontology is a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the intricate aspects of aging. This minor will provide students with a substantive overview of knowledge, practical field experience, and reflection to prepare for success in working with older adults.

Note: Gerontology Minors are not allowed to also earn a Gerontology Certificate.

Core Courses (12 credits)

PSY 101 - General Psychology: Understanding Human Behavior 3 Credits
AHS 302 - Health and Aging 3 Credits
AHS 305 - Society and Aging 3 Credits
AHS 413 - Death, Dying, and Quality of Life 3 Credits

Practical Experience (3 credits)

AHS 451 - Gerontology Practicum 2 Credits
or an internship/practicum/fieldwork experience required for a student’s major for a minimum of 80 hours, with a dedicated emphasis on adults aged 65 or older can also be counted toward the Gerontology Minor with advance approval by the Gerontology Program Director.
AHS 450 - Gerontology Professional Experience 1 Credits Co-req for all Gerontology Minor Practical Experiences.
