Nursing - with R.N. Licensure

Admission Criteria
Students will be considered for admission to the nursing major R.N.-B.S. track after meeting the following criteria. Admission is competitive.
- Unconditional admission to the University as a degree-seeking student.
- Application to the nursing program including an approved criminal background check.
- Current Indiana R.N. license or equivalent in the geographical location where the student will be doing his/her preceptorship or clinical practicum. An applicant may be admitted conditionally with formal admission pending receipt/verification of licensure no later than the time of enrollment in the first clinical nursing course.
- An earned associate degree with a major in nursing from a program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. (NLNAC) in a accredited collegiate institution.
- The application of a graduate from an accredited diploma program or an associate degree program that is not accredited will be evaluated through Admission Portfolio review.
- Transfer policies are consistent with those for students entering without licensure.
Advanced Standing
Experienced registered nurses have an opportunity to demonstrate successful attainment of course objectives for specific nursing courses through Professional Portfolio Review. Up to ten credits may be earned. Refer to Guidelines for the Professional Portfolio Review.
Progression, Retention, Dismissal, and Graduation Policies
The progression, retention, dismissal, and graduation policies stated for students entering without licensure apply to students with R.N. licensure with the following consideration: students must achieve a minimum letter grade of C in the following cognate General Education courses: English 305; Educational Psychology 302; Health, Safety, and Environmental Health Sciences 340, or any college level statistics course; and Life Sciences 412.

Course Requirements for Baccalaureate Track for Registered Nurses:
Listed below is the sequence of courses for students enrolled on a part-time basis. Students interested in the full-time sequence of courses should contact the Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Nursing Department. First Semester Courses (13 hours):
Second Semester Courses (16 hours):
- ENG 305- 3 hrs.
- Elective—3 hrs.
Summer Semester I (6 hours):
- Elective—3 hrs.
- Liberal Studies—3 hrs.
Summer Semester II (6 hours):
- Elective—3 hrs
- Liberal Studies—3 hrs.
Third Semester Courses (15 hours):
- Liberal Studies—3 hrs.
- Liberal Studies—3 hrs.
Fourth Semester Courses (11 hours):
Additional Requirements:
At least 50 semester hours must be at the 300 to 400 course level. Notes:

+ Total or partial credit can be earned by assessment of professional portfolio.
