The Master of Education Degree—Curriculum and Instruction is designed for those individuals who wish to develop leadership skills in instruction and curriculum planning in educational settings such as schools, community/technical colleges, business and industry, health services, and other social agencies. Students who complete this degree may also qualify for the Indiana Professional Teaching License if they (1) hold the Standard License in secondary education, junior high/middle school education, all grade education, or senior high-junior high/middle school education; (2) have completed five years of teaching experience in accredited schools; and (3) complete the prescribed courses to professionalize the major/minor.
Note: Students not seeking professional teacher licensure shall be considered for admission if they hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all courses taken at the graduate level in all schools attended, and have a minimum of 12 semester hours in the behavioral sciences (e.g., psychology, sociology, political science, and anthropology) at the undergraduate level. The graduate faculty of the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology will determine any deficiencies based upon candidate’s prior experience, educational background, and professional goals.

Area of concentration (15 credits):
An academic area of concentration outside of curriculum and instruction may be chosen in the Master of Education program. Those choosing an academic concentration must complete a minimum of 15 credis in the academic area. Professionalizing a license:
Professionalizing a Rules 2002 license may be accomplished by completion of the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, regardless of the selection of an academic concentration or not. For those choosing to professionalize a Rules 46 and 47 license, a major must complete a minimum of 6 credits in the major; those choosing to professionalize a minor must take a minimum of 12 credits in the minor. Those choosing to professionalize both a major and minor subject will take a minimum of 6 credits in the major and a minimum of 12 credits in the minor—thus increasing their overall program credits to 36 rather than 33 credits. Addition of subject license to existing teaching license:
Individuals who wish to add an additional subject license to the developmental/school setting license at which they are already licensed must contact the academic department and education student services.
Culminating experience requirement:
The student must satisfactorily complete in the last 12 hours of the degree program Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology. The core area studies in professional education requirements of this degree are prerequisite to the culminating experience requirement, and: |
