(43-46 credits)

The DHSc in Healthcare Leadership program is an interdisciplinary, post-masters or clinical doctorate, graduate program designed to equip professionals with the skills needed to lead and innovate in healthcare organizations. The program emphasizes the development of effective leadership strategies, health policy analysis, coaching skills, and interprofessional teamwork to drive innovation and improve healthcare administration, policy, and collaborative care practices. The program draws from various disciplines, allowing students to explore healthcare leadership from multiple angles and allowing them to develop collaborative, interprofessional relationships with their peers. Graduates will be prepared for leadership roles in academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and governmental agencies as administrators, policy influencers, and educators.

The program includes three core areas (Healthcare Leadership & Innovation, Health Equity & Social Justice, and Healthcare Quality & Informatics), a concentration in one of three areas (Population Health, Orthopedic Manual Therapy, or Health Professions Education), and a scholarly experience. Students complete 30 credits in the core courses, 7 credits in the scholarly experience, and the concentrations range in credits (6-9 credits). Students will engage in practice-based quality improvement, which will require foundational competence in research methods and statistics. Students can transfer these credits from their prior coursework, take a department level examination to earn credit for prior learning, or they can be advised into available courses.

Students are expected to complete the entire degree program within 7 years and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the degree program. Any courses accepted as transfer or prior credit earned at Indiana State University at admission will be considered contemporary and within the 7-year time limit.

Program Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate advanced leadership skills and strategic management abilities to drive innovation and organizational improvement in healthcare settings.
  • Analyze and influence healthcare policies to advocate for systemic improvements and promote health equity, addressing social determinants of health and intersectionality.
  • Design and implement continuous quality improvement programs and health informatics solutions to enhance patient care and healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved areas.
  • Foster effective interprofessional collaboration and apply advanced coaching techniques to build trust, motivate teams, and enhance organizational resilience and performance.

Research Courses (7 credit hours):

Students must demonstrate competence in graduate level research methods and statistical analysis. This can be achieved through transfer credit, credit for prior learning (departmental exam), or additional coursework.
