(63 credits)
The educational specialist (Ed.S.) degree in school psychology is designed to prepare persons for school-based practice as licensed school psychologists. The program aspires to prepare professional school psychologists through the integration of theoretical, empirical, technical, and interpersonal competencies in the application of a problem-solving model. The program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
The Ed.S. degree is regarded as an advanced practitioner’s degree and, as such, is a continuation of work completed in pursuit of a master’s degree. Students admitted to this program complete the requirements for the master of education (M.Ed.) in School Psychology en route to completion of the Ed.S. degree. Students who have already earned a master’s degree in a related field may be offered the opportunity to pursue the Ed.S. degree without also earning the M.Ed. in School Psychology.
Retention in the program is contingent upon fulfilling the essential functions required for continuation, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5, demonstrating the technical skills and professional dispositions necessary to successfully complete required clinical experiences, and successfully completing the culminating experience requirements. Successful completion of a criminal background check, as required by the Bayh College of Education, is a pre-requisite to completing all clinical training experiences.
