Psychology Major

(45 semester hours minimum)

The Psychology major helps students develop a detailed, integrated, and science-based understanding of the social and individual bases of human behavior.

Required Core (17 credits):

Complete the following required classes with a minimum grade of C:

PSY 101 - General Psychology: Understanding Human Behavior 3 credits
PSY 150 - Careers in Psychology 1 credits
PSY 321 - Diversity & Ethics in Psychology 3 credits
PSY 375 - Statistics in Psychology 4 credits
PSY 376 - Psychological Research and Writing 4 credits

Elective Core (18 credits):

Complete at least 6 of the following courses with a minimum grade of C:

PSY 240 - Psychology of Health Behavior 3 credits
PSY 266 - Developmental Psychology 3 credits
PSY 270 - Social Psychology 3 credits
PSY 310 - Learning 3 credits
PSY 342 - Perception 3 credits
PSY 344 - Cognitive Psychology 3 credits
PSY 356 - Physiological Psychology 3 credits
PSY 362 - Psychology of Personality 3 credits
PSY 368 - Introduction to Abnormal Psychology 3 credits

Directed Electives (9 credits):

Complete 9 credits from any offerings in the Department of Psychology (PSY prefix).

Culminating Experience (3 credits):

Complete one of the following courses with a minimum grade of C:

PSY 484 - Field Work in Psychology 3 credits
PSY 486 - Research in Psychology 3 credits
PSY 499T - Honors Thesis 3-6 credits

Note:

At least 18 credits of psychology courses must be taken from Indiana State University.
