Science Education Major

The science education program offers a BS degree which is an education degree including teacher certifictation.
The science education major is an interdisciplinary program. This program contains three components: the science core area; a concentration in Earth Space Science or Middle School Science or second major in biology, chemistry or physics; and professional education courses. Students who complete the science education major will have satisfied the Foundational Studies requirements in Mathematics and Laboratory Sciences.

Science Education Core (43-45 credits)

Required for Biology Major & Earth Space/Middle School Science Concentrations (8 credits)
Required for Chemistry and Physics Majors (10 credits)
Science Education Courses (7 credits)
A grade of C or better is required in each course as well as a minimum grade point average of 2.5. NOTE:
To complete the Science Education major, students must also complete the Biology, Chemistry, or Physics major, or complete the Earth Space Science Concentration or Middle School Science Concentration.
Biology Major - 40 credits not taken in the Science Education core: See degree requirements listed in the Biology Program section of the Catalog.
Chemistry Major – minimum of 39 credits not taken in the Science Education Core: See degree requirements listed in the Chemistry Program section of the Catalog.
Physics Major - minimum of 40 credits not taken in Science Education Core: See degree requirements listed in the Physics Program section of the Catalog.
A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required in all Science Education Major courses. A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA is required for all Science Education majors. Earth Space Science Concentration (24 credits)
Middle School Science Concentration (8 credits)
Minimum 8 credits from the courses listed below. Teacher Education Program
Students pursuing the science education major must also fulfill the requirements of the Teacher Education Program listed below.
A grade of C or better is required in each course as well as a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Professional Education Courses for Overall Secondary Science Education majors (30 credits)
Professional Education Courses for Middle School Science Concentration (26 credits)
