LING 523 - LGBT+ Sociolinguistics3 Credits This course will examine language use related to LGBT+ communities, both within the communities themselves, and outside of them. The focus will be primarily sociolinguistic, looking at word choice, accents and dialects, and the intersection of multiple facets of identity on language. No communities are monolithic, and much of our discussion will address how queer experience interacts with other elements of identity such as race, sex, gender, age, and region.
