3 Credits The course focuses on introducing some of the main ideas of Group Theory. This includes abelian, cyclic, dihedral, and permutation groups as well as subgroups, normal subgroups, quotient groups, group homomorphisms, group actions and the Sylow Theorems. The ring definition is introduced. Previous exposure to abstract algebra, number theory, and linear algebra would be beneficial.
