Language Studies Major

Degree Map
Language studies is an interdisciplinary major designed to equip students with competence in a foreign language and, at the same time, provide them with an understanding of the general nature of human language.

Required courses (9 credits):

A second language or linguistics area course (i.e., varying by prefix) 3 hours. Electives (30 credits):
21 credits at the 300/400 level from within the Languages Literatures and Linguistics Department. 9 credits at the 200-level or above from within the Languages Literatures and Linguistics Department. NOTE: All electives must be approved by an advisor in the department. Other Requirements:
An applied experience component within the 39 hours of the major. Must consist of: •A minimum six semester credits of appropriate study abroad. •A minimum over all 2.5 grade point average in departmental course work.
At least 18 credit hours of the major, not counting any placement credit received, must be taken from the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Indiana State University.
Degree Map
This program has the following minimum GPA requirements: 2.50 overall GPA; 2.50 in all Major course work. The Language Studies program is very flexible. This 4-year plan is provided as one option. More language choices are available than those here. Students should meet with their advisor in their first semester to plan out their program of study. Spring 2nd Year 16 Credits Fall 4th Year
