HISTORY OF THE PROGRAM
The MSW Program first enrolled students in Fall 2013. The Program has been awarded “Candidacy” status and is progressing through the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Commission on Accreditation (COA) process. The Program should receive a final decision on our accreditation status in Spring 2015.
GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The MSW program prepares social workers to provide clinical services in one of two concentrations: 1) mental health and addictions, or 2) health. A special emphasis on rural populations is infused within both concentrations. The curriculum focus is on the development of clinical competencies in caring for individuals, families, groups, and communities, to evaluate, develop, and implement programs and policy in multiple mental health and healthcare settings. This program works with the initiatives for inter-professional education in conjunction with the Rural Health Innovation Collaborative (RHIC) for improved patient access, safety, and quality care for rural and underserved populations.
The master’s program in social work can be completed in 2 calendar years of full-time study. The part-time master’s program in social work can be completed in a maximum of 4 calendar years.
The MSW program serves students with an undergraduate degree in social work and graduates from other undergraduate programs looking to pursue their MSW degree. Students who complete the program will be awarded the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
MAIN OBJECTIVES
The Department of Social Work at Indiana State University is committed to contributing to the profession of social work through teaching, research, community service, and continuing educational opportunities. The focus of the graduate program (Master of Social Work) is on the promotion of social and economic justice and on the development of competent and skilled clinical social work professionals who are prepared to work with rural populations.
