The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Media Technology offers professional education courses needed in the preparation of all grade, senior high, and junior high/middle school teachers and works with the teaching majors across campus to ensure the success of the teaching candidate.
The prospective all grade or senior high-junior high/middle school teacher is advised by an instructor in his or her major teaching field. At the time the student is admitted to the Teacher Education Program, Becoming a Complete Professional, he or she is considered a joint registrant in the Bayh College of Education and the college of the major department; however, all administrative actions in regard to the baccalaureate degree program rest with the college in which the teaching major is located. (See College of Education Procedures and Regulations for Students.)
The teacher preparation program at Indiana State University has been approved by the Indiana Department of Education’s Division of Professional Standards, and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Graduates of Indiana State University who successfully complete the teacher licensing programs and the appropriate state-required tests are qualified for Initial Practitioner teaching licenses in Indiana and in other states that recognize the completion of an NCATE approved program as a basis for licensure and in those states that have signed an interstate compact agreement with the State of Indiana.
