ANTH 301 - Emergence of Complex Society 3 hours.
Description The majority of the human experience as been spent living in small, egalitarian bands of hunter-gatherers. Then about 10,000 years ago human social organization began to change dramatically. Why these changes occurred where and when they did is one of the great puzzles in anthropology. This class will explore the emergence of complex societies such as Mesopotamia and Egypt in the Old World and Aztec and Maya in the New World.
