AVT 623 - Applications in Crew Resource Management 3 credits
In this course, students examine the common concepts of crew resource management (CRM) as developed by major air carriers and explore the theoretical basis of such training. Topics such as supervision of crewmembers, counseling, manner and style, accountability, and role management will be studied. Each student has the opportunity to become knowledgeable in a specific area of CRM by assisting in the development of a CRM research document as part of the course. Additionally, each student uses simulators and computer-based instruction to supplement academic instruction.
Prerequisites Previously taken a course in CRM or instructor’s approval
Note This course assumes the student has fundamental knowledge of human performance and limitations, and an understanding of the concepts of crew resource management in groups and organizations.

Prerequisites admission into medical school or consent of the Director of the Center for Medical Education and the Chairperson of the Department of BIO.

BIO 685 - Foundations in Genetic Counseling 2 credits Introduce students to the field of genetic counseling and the basic principles of the profession. Topics will include the history of the profession, scope of practice, constructing a comprehensive pedigree and lead a genetic counseling session. This course includes a variety of hands-on experiences to gain skills necessary to be a successful genetic counselor. When taken for a second term, the course will expand on the basic skills to gain more depth and independence as well as knowledge necessary to promote responsible use of genetic/genomic technologies and information to enhance the health of individuals, communities and the public.
