MUS 425 - Survey of African American Music 3 credits
Description A study of the music resulting from the duality of being Black and an American. Includes worksongs, spirituals, recreational songs, symphonic and other formal concert music, jazz, blues, rock, gospel, and miscellaneous songs. Selected readings, listening to both recordings and live performances, and a research paper on some social, cultural, or analytical aspect of music are required.
Note No prior background in music is necessary. A General Education course for non-music majors and minors.

MUS 499 - Cooperative Professional Practice in Music 2-6 credits
Description Students work full-time or part-time in a music business or industry. This experience is supervised by the ISU Professional Practice Office.
Prerequisites 30 semester credits or consent of advisor; 2.5 cumulative GPA for all music courses as well as for all University courses; passing performance on the Keyboard Proficiency Examination. MUS 448 and 4 credits of 468; completion of all freshman and sophomore music requirements.
Note Six hours are required for the B.S. in music with a concentration in merchandising or business administration. For the Professional-Vocational Curriculum, Music Major with Concentration in Composition. Presentation of a whole recital of original compositions during the semester enrolled; concurrent enrollment in 468.

NURS 486 - Professional Nursing Synthesis 3 credits
Description This course integrates, synthesizes, and reflects on issues of professionalism, professional goals, and professional nursing practice informed through multiple ways of knowing, and experiences grounded in historical, literary, artistic, scientific, and technological perspectives. Issues relevant to contemporary nursing practice and current healthcare trends are explored.
Prerequisites NURS 424 and 450 for pre-licensure students; NURS 450 for R.N./B.S. in nursing students; NURS 470 and 484 must be taken prior to or concurrently with NURS 486.
Note Three classroom hours per week.

OMA 439 - Operations Management and Analysis Internship 3 credits
Description Students work a predetermined amount of time in an approved position. Prior to registration, the position must be approved, the specific requirements established, and a written agreement must be signed by the employer, the student, and the supervising instructor.
Prerequisites at least 6 credits of Operations Management and Analysis course work with a grade of C or better and consent of the Department Chairperson on application form.
Note A written report is required of the student, and a written evaluation by the employer must be made to the supervising University instructor before credit will be granted. May be repeated one time if the second position is significantly different than the first.

OMA 470 - Business Process Simulation 3 credits
Description This course introduces students to the concepts and tools needed to intelligently analyze complex business processes through computer simulation. The statistical concepts and logic needed to accurately model a real-world process form the basis of learning in the course. These are applied to hypothetical and real-world business processes through the use of a common simulation software package. Upon completion of the course, students are able to accurately predict the effect of management decisions on complex business systems, thus aiding in making decisions relevant to such systems.
Prerequisites BUS 305 and MIS 376 or BEIT 320 or equivalent with a minimum grade of C+ in each class, or consent of Department Chairperson.

PE 101 - Fitness for Life 2 credits
Description This course presents information and activities which emphasize fitness and exercise and their relationship to health. Lectures and a variety of accompanying laboratory activities help students make informed decisions about fitness, exercise, and health throughout their lifetime. Regular participation in physical activity is a main component of the course.
Note The course Physical Education 101 meets the University General Education requirement of two semester hours. A student who, because of health status or disability, who is unable to participate actively, should take Physical Education 100. See the General Education Program section.
