Research:

• ARTP 609 - Research for the Studio Artist 3 credits

Major Requirements:

36 credits of directed electives in one or several areas of studio art. Each credit hour requires a minimum of 3 supervised credit hours and a minimum of 3 additional credit hours of studio work per week.

Other Requirements:

• Art history 6 credits
• An initial review of the student’s creative development is required after the completion of 18 credit hours and no later than the completion of 24 credit hours
• A midpoint review is required after the completion of 24 credit hours and no later than the completion of 34 credit hours
• A third review is required after the completion of 44 credit hours and no later than the completion of 50 credit hours
  
  These reviews are conducted and evaluated by the student’s advisory committee.

• ART 696 - Final Visual Exhibition 3 credits

Electives:

12 credits in an area relating to the student’s creative work within or outside the department or a combination thereof.

Culminating Experience:

A public presentation of an extensive body of artwork, constituting a cohesive visual statement, is required. Theoretical documentation in the form of a creative research paper that addresses primary topics of concern in the exhibited work must accompany the visual exhibition. The art work and accompanying documentation will be collectively evaluated by the student’s advisory committee in the Final M.F.A. Review. The written documentation, together with slides or other approved visual record of representative works from the exhibit, will be retained by the Department  of Art. Complete procedural requirements for the exhibition are available in the department office.

Note:

A minimum of one-half of all credit hours must be taken in courses numbered 600 or higher.
