(30 credits)

The accelerated 4+1 pathway allows qualified ISU undergraduates to begin MSIS coursework in their senior year and complete the master’s with one additional year of study.

The MSIS program equips professionals to integrate data-driven design, and artificial intelligence across applied engineering and technology domains.

Students build fluency in ethical, human-centered AI and information curation through two AI+ courses, develop analytical and managerial capability in a project-management and research cluster, and customize their plan of study with stackable graduate certificates or advisor-approved elective clusters (e.g., robotics, mechatronics, automotive systems, packaging, or machine learning). The degree culminates in an applied project or seminar that demonstrates mastery of intelligent systems principles.

The program can be delivered fully online for working professionals, supporting lifelong learning, rapid reskilling, and credential modularity. This pathway emphasizes the integration of teaching and applied research in an engaging, supportive environment, blending theoretical foundations with practical application. Students work with an advisor to craft an individualized plan aligned to prior coursework, experience, and goals, positioning them for leadership roles in industry and, if desired, for doctoral study (e.g., Ph.D. in Technology Management).

Please see the Graduate Catalog for more information.
