Computer Science M.S.

(30 credits)

The MS in Computer Science at Indiana State University prepares students for a variety of cutting-edge applications in the following areas: web development, database management, bioinformatics, data science, networking, cyber-security, systems management, general software engineering, and machine learning.

Core Courses (9 credit hours)

The CS core is designed to prepare students for higher-level courses that require a strong foundation in programming.These courses are all to be taken in the first semester, if possible.

CS 500 - Programming Fundamentals 3 Credits
CS 501 - Programming for Data Science 3 Credits
CS 600 - Concrete Mathematics 3 Credits

Culminating Experience (3 credits)

The culminating experience normally involves a significant project or experience that is supervised by the faculty and is directly related to the student’s interests. Three credits are required for completion.

CS 685 - Software Project 3-6 Credits
CS 695 - Computer Science Research 3-6 Credits
CS 699 - Computer Science Internship 0-3 Credits

Electives (18 credits)

At least 12 credit hours must be CS courses.

The remaining 6 credit hours of electives can be either:

CS, ECT, MATH, BIO, or PHYS courses

courses approved by the student’s advisor.

Note: Out the 30 credit hours for the M.S. degree, at least 15 credit hours must be at the 600 level.
