Core Curriculum (50 credits):
Required Mathematics:
- MATH 131 - Calculus I 4 Credits In order to take MATH 131, students must meet the appropriate placement score or they will have to fulfill the required course prerequisite. (C or better in Math 112 and 115 or C or better in Math 116)
- MATH 132 - Calculus II 4 Credits
Approved Advanced Elective Courses to be taken in the Concentration:
Chemistry:
- Any 3- or 400-level CHEM course (with the exception of 330, 330L, and 399). A maximum of 4 credits of CHEM 499 may be counted.
Physics:
- Any PHYS course that carries a prerequisite of 116 or higher.
All students must choose one of the following concentrations along with the core:
American Chemical Society-Certified Concentration (19 credits):
This program is designed for the student who wishes to pursue an advanced degree or career as a professional chemist. Electives:
- 6 credits of advanced course work from approved electives listed above. At least 3 credits must be taken in chemistry.
American Chemical Society-Certified Biochemistry Concentration (25 credits):
This program is designed for the student who wishes to pursue an advanced degree or a career as a professional chemist in the area of biochemistry and the biological sciences. Elective Chemistry:
- 3 credits of advanced course work in chemistry from approved chemistry electives listed above.
Elective Biology:
One of the following three lecture courses with accompanying laboratory:
Preprofessional Concentration (19 credits):
This program is designed for the student who wishes to pursue a career in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, or other related fields. Electives:
- 7 credits of elective course work. Choose from approved advanced electives listed above, or MATH 231, or BIO 210 and 210L.

This program has the following minimum GPA requirements: 2.00 overall GPA Notes:
No course required for the chemistry major (BS) will count towards the chemistry major (BS) if taken Pass/Fail.
For the Chemistry Major the following courses must be taken at Indiana State University: - CHEM 405 - Senior Capstone Seminar in Chemistry 1 Credits
- Three CHEM lecture courses at the 3- or 400-level (with the exception of 330, 351, and 352).
- Two CHEM laboratory courses at the 3- or 400-level (with the exception of 330L, 351L, and 352L).
