Accelerated Masters: Geoscience (Thesis and Non Thesis Option)

A program for available for qualifying Indiana State University undergraduates, allowing students to engage in dual enrollment during their senior year and leading an accelerated MS graduate degree (33 credits minimum)

Undergraduate Directed Electives (15 Credits)


Students have the option of diversifying their electives to cover a broad spectrum of geologic topics, or they may tailor their electives to focus on such discipline-related topics as environmental geosciences, water resources, geochemistry, geoarchaeology, and physical geology. See advisor for a list of discipline related topics. Up to 3 credits of other related science courses may be completed in consultation with the major advisor.

Graduate Major (9 Credits)


  • ENVI 733 - Seminar in Earth and Environmental Systems 3 credits

Choose 1 of the following

  • ENVI 588 - Geoscience Research Methods 3 credits

or

  • ENVI 611 - Research Design 3 credits

Choose 1 of the following

  • ENVI 552 - Quaternary Environments 3 credits

or

  • ENVI 571 - Quaternary Paleoecology 3 credits

Thesis Option


Choose one of the following for 6 credits:

  • GEOG 699 Master’s Thesis 6 credits

or

  • GEOL 699 Master’s Thesis 6 credits

Additionally, students will choose 18 credits of directed electives to be determined in consultation with the student’s advisor.

Non Thesis Option


Choose one of the following for 3 credits:

  • GEOG 629 Individual Research in Geography and Sustainabililty 1-6 credits

or

  • GEOL 697 Research Seminar in Geology 1-6 credits

Additionally, students will choose 21 credits of directed electives to be determined in consultation with the student’s advisor.

Note


At least 17 credits in the graduate portion of the degree must be earned in courses numbered 600 and above.
