The History Program offers students a broad liberal arts foundation that deepens their knowledge and understanding of the world, stimulates, effective participation in contemporary society, and cultivates deep-thinking skills required for success in a wide range of employment areas or graduate study.

Electives (24 credits):
- To complete the degree, the student must earn at least 3 credits at the 300- or 400-level (not including core courses) in each of the three geographical areas (A, B, and C). The remaining 15 credits may be taken from any 300- or 400-level HIST courses (not including core courses). 12 of the 24 elective credits must be at the 400-level.

At least 12 credits must be at the 400-level, with at least one 400-level course in each area of study. A student may substitute three credits of directed electives with appropriate cognate courses taken in other departments. These cognate courses must be approved by the History Department Chair.
