The Bachelor of Fine Arts is a performance-oriented program that prepares students with a core set of artistic skills. Bachelor of Fine Arts graduates are prepared to enter the work market or to pursue a master of fine arts or related graduate degree. 

(ART) Core Curriculum:

The core curriculum is a prescribed program of study required of all Art majors—BFA, BA/BS, and Art Education—and is basic to a student’s choice of an area of concentration.

Required courses (18 credits):

Required Art History Courses (9 credits):

Students should complete 9 credits by taking 3 credits from each of the following areas:

Required Concentration (33 to 39 credits):

Students are required to declare a concentration in Graphic Design or one of the following studio areas: Ceramic, Digital Art, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture.

Graphic Design Concentration (33 Credits):

Introductory Graphic Design (9 Credits):

Intermediate/Advanced Courses (18 Credits):

Senior Sequence (6 Credits):

Studio Areas (39 credits):

Students declaring a studio concentration in Ceramic, Digital Art, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture must complete the 12 credits of Introductory Studio and Design courses, 6 credits of Studio Elective courses, 3 credits of the Final Exhibition course, and 18 credits of specific concentration courses based on their declared studio area.

Studio Electives (6 credits):

Studio students complete 6 credits of additional intermediate and advanced electives in an area outside of their concentration in consultation with their advisor.

Final Exhibition (3 credits)

Studio students will complete 3 credits of ARTP 496.

  • 1-3 Credits

  • Assessment Information: Students in their last semester present a representative example of their work in an approved gallery setting. The work presented is evaluated by the studio faculty of the student’s area of concentration and is photographically documented.  This evaluation is in conjunction with ARTP 496.

Ceramic Concentration (18 Credits)

Students choosing the Ceramics concentration will complete the following 18 credits.

Digital Art Concentration (18 Credits)

Students choosing the Digital Art concentration will complete the following 18 credits.

Drawing Concentration (18 Credits)

Students choosing the Drawing concentration will complete the following 18 credits.

Painting Concentration (18 Credits)

Students choosing the Painting concentration will complete the following 18 credits.

Photography Concentration (18 Credits)

Students choosing the Photography concentration will complete the following 18 credits.

Printmaking Concentration (18 Credits)

Students choosing the Printmaking concentration will complete the following 18 credits.

Sculpture Concentration (18 Credits)

Students choosing the Sculpture concentration will complete the following 18 credits.

Introductory Studio and Design (12 Credits)

Studio students complete 12 credits by taking at least 3 credits from each of the following areas:
