Learning Outcomes  

The English major fosters skills in critical analysis, independent thinking, creativity, research, and writing through a focus on literature, creative writing, and rhetoric and professional writing. The program is designed to lay a foundation for a wide range of careers in which clear communication and thinking, as well as research skills, are needed.  

Shared English Major Core (15 credits):

All electives must be approved by an advisor in the department.

Foreign Language Recommendation


English majors considering graduate work in English should take substantial work in at least one foreign language. French, German, and/or Latin are recommended.
