Core Courses (15 credits):

Research and Theory:

Choose one of the following concentrations:

Concentration in Literature (18 credits):

Directed Electives (6-9 credits of electives in literature):

Directed Electives can be fulfilled by ENG 547 , ENG 560 , ENG 562 , ENG 563 , ENG 600 , ENG 635 , ENG 649 , ENG 659 , ENG 669 , or ENG 685A . These courses can be repeated except for ENG 560.

Additional Electives:

At least 6 credits of additional electives from any graduate level course.  May be taken through other departments and programs when approved by the Director of Graduate Studies in English.

Culminating Experience:
Choose one of the following:

Concentration in Writing (18 credits):

Directed Electives:

12-15 credits of electives from ENG 524 , ENG 525 , ENG 527 , ENG 685A , or other courses approved by advisor.  Students whose culminating experience is a work of creative writing must take a creative writing workshop in at least two of the following genres:  poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction.

Note:

Courses in the 500 series are open to undergraduates as *400 series. Graduate students are required to do additional work of a research nature. A course taken at the 400 level may not be repeated at the 500 level.
