(113 credits minimum)

The graduate program leading to the doctor of psychology (Psy.D.) degree in School Psychology is designed to prepare persons for positions of leadership in school-based practice; professional psychological practice in diverse settings; and positions focused on teaching, supervision, and professional service.  The program aspires to prepare professional psychologists through the integration of theoretical, empirical, technical, and interpersonal competencies in the application of a problem-solving model. The program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

The Psy.D. degree is regarded as an advanced practitioner’s degree and, as such, is a continuation of work completed in pursuit of a master’s degree.  Students admitted to this program may earn the master of education (M.Ed.) in School Psychology en route to completion of the Psy.D. degree. Students who have already earned a master’s degree in a related field may be offered the opportunity to pursue the Psy.D. degree without also earning the M.Ed. in School Psychology.

Retention in the program is contingent upon fulfilling the essential functions required for continuation, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5, demonstrating the technical skills and professional dispositions necessary to successfully complete required clinical experiences, passing the preliminary examination, and successfully completing research requirements.  Successful completion of a criminal background check, as required by the Bayh College of Education, is a pre-requisite to completing all clinical training experiences.

Applied Clinical Experiences (18 credits)

Subspecialty (12 credits)

Students complete 12 graduate credits in a related area. This requirement is intended to enhance students’ clinical, leadership, research, and/or applied practice skills in areas consistent with their professional goals.
