Accelerated Masters: Earth and Quaternary Sciences (Thesis Option)

A program for available for qualifying Indiana State University undergraduates, allowing students to engage in dual enrollment during their senior year and leading an accelerated MS graduate degree (33 credits minimum)

Undergraduate Directed Electives (15 Credits)


Students have the option of diversifying their electives to cover a broad spectrum of geologic topics, or they may tailor their electives to focus on such discipline-related topics as environmental geosciences, water resources, geochemistry, geoarchaeology, and physical geology. See advisor for a list of discipline related topics. Up to 3 credits of other related science courses may be completed in consultation with the major advisor.

Graduate Research (6 Credits)


  • GEOL 699 - Master’s Thesis 6 credits

Graduate Major (9 Credits)


  • ENVI 588 - Geoscience Research Methods 3 credits
  • GEOL 690 - Advanced Topics in Earth and Quaternary Sciences 3 credits​
  • ENVI 552 - Quaternary Environments 3 credits

or

  • ENVI 571 - Quaternary Paleoecology 3 credits

Graduate Electives (18 Credits)


18 credits of directed electives from geology or from allied scientific disciplines that focus on topics in environmental sciences, geochemistry, geoarchaeology, geosciences, paleoecology, paleoclimatology, geobiology, and evolution (to be determined in consulation with the student’s advisor.)

Culminating Experience


Successful defense of thesis.

Note


At least 17 credits in the graduate portion of the degree must be earned in courses numbered 600 and above.
