Environmental Geoscience Major

Learning Outcomes  

The Environmental Geoscience program provides students with scientific and communication skills and knowledge necessary to understand the inter-relationships between people, living organisms, and the surface environment.  This comprehensive array of knowledge provides students with a unique set of tools suitable for building analytical skills, problem-solving techniques, and critical thinking skills necessary for professional careers in industry, environmental and engineering consulting firms, governmental regulatory agencies, or for graduate school. 

Required Cognate Science Courses - 7 to 10 credit hours


MATH 115 is required as a prerequisite for CHEM 105/L. Appropriate math placement score for MATH 115 or higher will satisfy this requirement.

Directed Electives - 18 credit hours


Select 18 hours from the following list of courses. Students have the option of diversifying their electives to cover a broad spectrum of environmental topics, or they may tailor their electives to focus on such discipline-related topics as environmental geosciences, water resources, geochemistry, geoarchaeology, and physical geology. See advisor for a list of discipline related topics. Up to 3 credits of other related science courses may be completed in consultation with the major advisor.
