Learning Outcomes
The History Program offers students a broad liberal arts foundation that deepens their knowledge and understanding of the world, stimulates, effective participation in contemporary society, and cultivates deep-thinking skills required for success in a wide range of employment areas or graduate study.

Required Courses (18 Credits)
Electives (24 credits):
A minimum of 6 credits in each of the following areas, with at least one 400-level course in each area and 6 additional credits of electives are required from any of the three areas. At least 15 of the 24 hours must be at the 400-level. Area B: Ancient, early modern, and modern European history
Area C: The Wider World: Mediterranean, Near East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Note:
Students desiring a more specialized program may declare the following concentration in place of the Electives: Public and Applied History Concentration (24 credits):
Required History (6 credits):
Directed History Electives (18 credits):
- 6 credits from (Area A) United States;
- 6 credits from (Area B) Ancient, early modern, and modern European history;
- 6 credits from (Area C) The Wider World: Mediterranean, Near East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
At least 12 credits must be at the 400-level, with at least one 400-level course in each area of study. A student may substitute three credits of directed electives with appropriate cognate courses taken in other departments. These cognate courses must be approved by the History Department Chair. This program has the following GPA requirements: 2.00 overall GPA; 2.20 in all Major course work.
*There are 3 types of major electives: Area A-United States; Area B-Ancient , early modern, and modern European history; and Area C-The Wider World. To complete the degree you must earn 6 credits in each of the areas with at least one of the courses in each area at the 400-level. You need to complete 24 total credits in major electives (which is 6 additional beyond the required 6 in each of the areas). At least 15 of the 24 major elective credits need to be at the 400-level.
