English as a Second Language Minor

Required courses:

• LING 210 - Introduction to Linguistics 3 Credits
• LING 311 - Linguistic Analysis of English 3 Credits
• LING 316 - Introduction to Teaching English as a Second Language 3 Credits
• LING 420 - Language Acquisition 3 Credits

Choose one from the following:

• LING 411 - Evolving English 3 Credits
• LING 413 - Linguistic Diversity in the United States 3 Credits
• LING 414 - Morphology 3 Credits
• LING 415 - Topics in Sociolinguistics 3 Credits

Note:

Students with a completed undergraduate degree seeking to add Teaching English as a Second Language or English as a New Language to an existing license should choose the graduate Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate Program.

At least 9 credit hours of the minor, not counting any placement credit received, must be taken from the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Indiana State University.

The English as a Second Language Minor The  Minor is not available to students who have declared the Language Studies Teaching Major with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language.
