Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics (Teaching) Minor

Single Language Option (French, German, Latin, or Spanish):


Additional Requirements:


21 hours in the primary language area (French, German, Latin, or Spanish) to be distributed as follows: 201—3 hrs.; 202—3 hrs. or equivalent of these two courses (which have as prerequisites 101 and 102 or equivalent level of proficiency); 301—3 hrs.; plus 12 additional hours of electives at the 300/400 level.

Linguistics/Teaching English as a Second Language Option

21 hours to be distributed as follows: 201—3 hrs. and 202—3 hrs (which have as prerequisites 101 and 102 or equivalent level of proficiency) in a single language; Linguistics 210—3 hrs., plus 12 hours of electives in Linguistics/Teaching English as a Second Language. For purposes of licensure in English as a New Language directed electives include English 310—3 hrs. or Linguistics 311—3 hrs.; Linguistics 413—3 hrs. or Linguistics 415—3 hrs.; and Linguistics 417—3 hrs. Also required are one of the following (as approved by the advisor) Linguistics 316; Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics 460; or Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics 490. Coverage is kindergarten-12

Note:


For purposes of licensure, students pursuing the minor on the teaching track must include in their 21 hours at least 3 hours of 300/400-level course work in literature within the primary area. In addition to the 21 hours, also required are Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics 402 (as approved by the advisor) and one of the following: Linguistics 316; Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics 460; or Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics 490. Teaching minors should meet with the minor advisor each semester to ensure that they are fulfilling the latest requirements for state licensure.
