Communication Major

The Communication program offers students a core in culture, practice, research, theory, history, writing, multimedia production, and law. Communication major also select areas of focus including public relations, journalism, media studies, and communications and culture. Communication is a degree for students seeking a career that involves writing, marketing, promotions, journalism, broadcasting or public relations.

Electives (12 credits):


Every major will complete courses in addition to those required in the core and the declared concentration. Any three-credit-hour Communication course except COMM 202, COMM 101, those required in the core, and those required in a student’s declared concentration may be used to satisfy an elective requirement in the major. A full listing of courses in Communication is available in the undergraduate catalog. Majors may request to substitute one course offered by a different department or program for one elective requirement. Requests will describe the relevance of the course to the student’s program of study and value to professional goals. A list of courses recognized as appropriate substitutes for this requirement based on concentration is maintained in the department.
