• APN 644 - Theoretical Foundations of Family Health Care: Management of Common Chronic and Acute Health Problems I 7 credits
• APN 646 - Diagnostic Laboratory for Family Nurse Practitioners 1 credits
• APN 664 - Theoretical Foundations of Family Health Care: Management of Common Chronic and Acute Health Problems II 8 credits
• APN 670 - Family Nurse Practitioner Preceptorship 5 credits
• APN 675 - Family Nurse Practitioner Role II 1 credits

Note:

Admission to the Family Nurse Practioner Post-Master’s Certificate option requires admission to both the College of Graduate and Professional Studies as well as the Advanced Practice Nursing Department.

Admission Requirements:

For admission to the Family Nurse Practitioner Post-Master’s Certificate option, the applicant must:

1.    Provide documentation of successful completion of a graduate advanced pathophysiology course with a minimum grade of B.

2.    Provide documentation of successful completion of a graduate level pharmacology course within the past five years with a minimum grade of B. If older than five years, the student must retake this course. Some states require pharmacology within the past three years. It is the student’s responsibility to check with their state to determine this time frame and repeat the course if necessary.

3.    A master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited school of nursing.

4.    A baccalaureate degree in nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or equivalent accreditation association.

5.    Current registered nurse licensure or equivalent in the geographic location where the student does his/her preceptorship or clinical practicum.

6.    Three letters of reference including at least one academic and one professional reference.

7.    Personal statement of professional goals that describes the student’s leadership and community service as a registered nurse.

8.    Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate course work.*

9.    Evidence of the equivalent of one year of full-time work experience as a registered nurse before entering a clinical or role course.

10.  Passport photo.

Applicants to nursing programs are considered on a competitive basis. Criteria for admission include intellectual capacity, performance, maturity, clarity of goals, and other qualities appropriate for graduate study. An individual or group interview may be requested or required. 

*Applicants not meeting all criteria may be considered for conditional admission. Applicants not meeting the requirement of a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale can be admitted to conditional status. They must earn a minimum of a B grade in each course during the first nine hours of graduate course work for full admission to the program.
