The primary objective of this degree is to provide an opportunity for graduate students to further develop their knowledge and understanding in an area of expertise or interest.

Any of these areas could be used to fulfill the directed electives area or any other appropriate grouping. 1. Professional Education (9 credits):
A student may elect to professionalize his/her teaching degree by taking the following courses: Choose one of the following:
- CIMT 611 Measurement and Evaluation in Education 3 hrs.
- EPSY 605 Philosophy of Education 3 hrs.
or
- EPSY 522 Adolescent Psychology 3 hrs.
or
- ESPY 625 Psychological Aspects of Teaching 3 hrs.
- CIMT 622 3 hrs.
and
- CIMT 660 Motor Learning and Human Performance 3 hrs.

- PE 631 Curriculum in Physical Education 3 hrs.
2. Scientific Emphasis (9 credits):
A student may wish to gain more in-depth scientific information that would be helpful to a prospective and practicing coach by taking the following courses: Choose one of the following:
Note:
The Basic Professional Core requires students to select either 580 or 680 or 685. Whichever course is selected it cannot be counted in this specialization area. 3. Research Emphasis (6-9 credits):
This area will allow students to become proficient in understanding and performing research. Required course are: Choose one of the following:
4. Coaching Techniques/Methods (6 credits):
This area provides students with a better understanding of coaching techniques and methods. Any three of the following coaching techniques and methods classes meet the emphasis and requirement:
Note:
Courses in the 500 series are open to undergraduates as *400 series. Graduate students are required to do additional work of a research nature. A course taken at the 400 level may not be repeated at the 500 level. |
