Physical Education (Coaching) M.A. or M.S.

(33-36 credits)

The objective of this degree is to provide an opportunity for graduate students to further develop their knowledge and understanding in the area of coaching.

The coaching specialization requires an applicant have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution; meet all requirements of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies; and have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, or if the grade point average is less than 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, take the Graduate Record Examination General Test and score no lower than one standard error of measurement from the national mean on the verbal, quantitative, and analytical tests.

Applicants must provide a letter of application, three letters of recommendation, a resume, and other supporting documents.

Applicants must also have earned at least 12 credit hours in physical education course work in the area of coaching. Examples of courses that are acceptable include:  sports first aid, physical conditioning, scientific aspects of coaching, sports administration, psychology of coaching, issues in coaching, philosophy of coaching, coaching theory/methods.

A student who does not meet this requirement can be granted conditional admission but is required to complete additional course work as determined after a review of transcripts.

Courses in the 500 series are open to undergraduates as *400 series. Graduate students are required to do additional work of a research nature. A course taken at the 400 level may not be repeated at the 500 level.
