Health and Safety

Professionalization of Indiana Teaching Licenses:


Licensed Indiana teachers, through graduate level training, may obtain endorsements in driver and traffic safety education and motorcycle education. Programs are also available for teachers desiring professionalization of their Indiana teaching licenses  in health and safety, driver and traffic safety education, and motorcycle education. Information concerning specific courses of study for these areas is available from the Department of Health, Safety, and Environmental Health Sciences.

Professionalization of a Teaching Major in Health and Safety (6 credits):


Professionalization of a Teaching Minor in Health and Safety (12 credits):


Driver Education License (9 credits):


This licensure can be an additional license for all grade or secondary content teacher’s license with the Indiana Professional Standard Board through Indiana Department of Education.

A candidate, who has successfully completed 48 undergraduate credit hours and the 9 credit driver education license can qualify to make application through their recognized school or agency to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle commercial school instructor credential.

Notes:


The student will be required by the Indiana Professional Standards Board to complete continuing professional development for license renewal.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Health Sciences 546 is required for school health majors and is an elective for other programs.

The student must complete an education degree to work in the public schools and complete the 9 credit driver education license requirement.

To work in the commercial schools students must successfully complete at least 48 semester hours plus the 9 hour driver education license requirement.

Note:


Courses in the 500 series are open to undergraduates as *400 series. Graduate students are required to do additional work of a research nature. A course taken at the 400 level may not be repeated at the 500 level.
