English Core:
- 600-level course in American literature-3 credits
- 600-level course in English literature before 1800-3 credits
- 600-level course in English literature since 1800-3 credits
Electives:
-
At least 18 credits of directed electives in composition/rhetoric, creative writing, or technical writing, including the culminating experience and a general elective of 3 credits chosen from a course either within the specialization, outside the specialization, or outside the department.
Other Requirements:
Reading knowledge of one classical or modern language approved by the Director of Graduate Studies in English. This requirement may be met by completing at the undergraduate level at least 12 credit hours in the language, or by passing a foreign language proficiency examination. Choose one of the following:

Courses in the 500 series are open to undergraduates as *400 series. Graduate students are required to do additional work of a research nature. A course taken at the 400 level may not be repeated at the 500 level. |
