English-Specialization in Literature M.A.

Research and Theory:

• ENG 600 - Bibliography and Research Methods in English 3 credits
• ENG 635 - Literary Theory and Criticism 3 credits

English Core:

• 600-level course in American literature-3 credits.
• 600-level course in English literature before 1800-3 credits.
• 600-level course in English literature since 1800-3 credits.

Electives:

• At least 12 credits of directed electives in literature, including the culminating experience.

Other Requirements:

A minimum of 6 credit hours of additional electives either in literature or outside the area of specialization, or a combination. May be taken through other departments and programs when approved by the Director of Graduate Studies in English. Reading knowledge of one classical or modern language approved by the Director of Graduate Studies in English. This requirement may be met by completing at the undergraduate level at least 12 credit hours in the language, or by passing a foreign language proficiency examination.

No more than 6 transfer credits will be accepted for this program.

Note:

Courses in the 500 series are open to undergraduates as *400 series. Graduate students are required to do additional work of a research nature. A course taken at the 400 level may not be repeated at the 500 level.
