INTRODUCTION

The Athletic Training Department offers a post-professional athletic training education program for students who want to further their clinical and scientific skills in athletic training and earn a master’s of science degree. The program is accredited by the National Athletic Trainers Association and is designed to increase the breadth and depth of athletic training knowledge.

FACILITIES

The Athletic Training Department is located in the College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services, and is housed in the Health and Human Services Building. The department includes a fully equipped athletic training room, and the Indiana State University Rehabilitation Clinic and Clinical Instructional Laboratory, and supports an active Research Center. In addition, the Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, and Motor Learning Laboratories support the graduate curricula and research.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

The department’s two-year program is designed to develop students into scholarly clinicians. In order to accomplish this, students take courses that increase their depth of knowledge in athletic training through lecture, laboratory, and discussion. All students have to complete a research experience either through a master’s thesis or a graduate research project. Additionally students gain employment in all athletic training settings: high school, collegiate, professional, corporate, industrial, clinical, or research environments.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students must meet the general entrance requirements of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, be either a Board of Certification-certified athletic trainer, or be eligible to take the Board of Certification Examination. In order to receive a graduate assistantship students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
