The Department of Built Environment prepares students for professional careers in a variety of disciplines.  The baccalaureate degree programs offered are architectural engineering technology, construction management, interior architecture design, and safety management.  Minors in construction management, interior architecture design, and safety management are also offered.

A graduate degree is offered in occupational safety management.  Students planning graduate study should consult the Graduate Catalog for information about graduate degrees.

Built environments range in scale from residential and commercial structures to entire cities, including their supporting infrastructures such as water supplies and energy networks.  The term “built environment” typically is used to describe the interdisciplinary field which addresses the design, construction, management, and use of these human-made surroundings and their connection to human activity over time.  The area of study draws upon subjects such as architecture, construction management, interior design, safety management, economics, law, public policy, technology and environmental sustainability.

Mission

The Department of the Built Environment is dedicated to being an international leader in preparing professionals in responsibly planning, designing, constructing, and managing the built environment by emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration.
