INTRODUCTION

The Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Management program is designed to prepare students for positions of leadership in the public and private sectors of society. At the conclusion of the program, graduates will have developed skills in research procedures, will have acquired expertise in instructional processes, and will be able to provide service to the industrial and educational community.

The program maintains most of the traditional requirements characteristic of advanced graduate study, but is unique in using the resources of a consortium of five universities linked together by alternative communication systems. These member universities have programs staffed by faculty having expertise in many areas of technology. Additionally, laboratories with specialized equipment are available that provide opportunities for research and study. Each university brings to the consortium a unique philosophical quality and extensive library holdings that add depth and quality to the program.

Alternative communication technology is used to deliver key components of the program such as a general technology core, linking campuses to better serve students. This allows all members of the consortium to capitalize on the efficient use of existing resources while maintaining quality.

Program information on the doctorate in technology management is located at http://technology.indstate.edu/consortphd/. Hyperlink connections to the Consortium universities, faculty members and coordinators at each university are also available at this site.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Application for admission is made to Indiana State University through the College of Graduate and Professional Studies.  Additionally, the applicant is required to submit specific materials to the Program Office (see Application web site:  http://technology.indstate.edu/consortphd/application/ for details).  The Director, in consultation with the program coordinator at the Consortium university will make recommendation to the Dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies regarding admission of applicants to the program.

INTRODUCTION

The graduate program in technology management is offered in the Department of Applied Engineering and Technology Management.

TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT

Program Coordinator: Dr. Michael A. Hayden

The Master of Science in Technology Management (MSTM) Program is meant to further the academic preparation and professional advancement of the baccalaureate graduate with a degree in professional orientation toward technology management or a similar industrial-technical field. The program provides theoretical and practical learning experiences to prepare graduates for leadership positions in industry and/or prepare them for doctoral level programs such as the Ph.D. in Technology Management.

The MSTM program consists of a core of common courses, a concentration, and a culminating experience. The concentration is meant to allow an individualized contract of study that best fits the student’s prior course work, experiences, and goals. For regular admission, the student’s baccalaureate degrees should have included substantial coursework related to the MSTM concentration. The MSTM concentrations follow:

  • Automotive
  • Manufacturing
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Packaging
  • Quality

Unconditional entrance to the program requires a baccalaureate degree closely related to a technical, engineering technology, or technology management field. The most appropriate baccalaureate degrees will be ABET or ATMAE accredited or meet the curriculum standards of ABET or ATMAE. The applicant applies via the College of Graduate and Professional Studies web site. The applicant should also send a letter (e-mail is OK) to the AETM Department stating the concentration he/she wishes to pursue because the decision about a student’s application cannot be finalized until the Department knows the intended concentration.
