ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Degree Offered

The program leading to a bachelor of science degree with a major in nursing includes an on-line program of study combining theory and preceptored clinical nursing courses, required support courses, and Foundational Studies courses. Students in this track have either a licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse license or a registered nurse license. The baccalaureate degree is recognized as the basic preparation for professional nursing practice, and prepares the graduate as a generalist. Baccalaureate nursing education is foundational for graduate study in nursing.

Departmental Opportunities

Faculty are dedicated to providing quality experiential learning opportunities through on-line course design; simulation and community engagement experiences; and service learning projects. Students are assigned an academic advisor and are encouraged to maintain a working relationship with their advisor throughout their program of study to review plans and progress toward the attainment of educational objectives. Opportunities for students are available though the Indiana State University Lambda Sigma Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Nursing students pay the same University fees as other distance students including a distance education course fee and technology fee. Additional expenses related to the program of study include assessment and remediation materials, a nursing clinical faculty fee for designated courses, books, and other instructional materials. Expenses specific to the Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse to Bachelor of Science Program of study include pre-admission testing, as well as fees associated with application for regsitered nurse licensure and licensure examination. Students are able to have their clinical experiences in the area where they live, but are responsible for their own transportation to and from healthcare agencies utilized for clinical experiences. They are actively involved in finding the type of clinical agency that meets the clinical experience needed for a particular course. Nursing scholarship information and applications are available at the following Web site:http://www.indstate.edu/nursing/financial/scholarships.htm
