ARTP 499 - Art and the Artist in the Context of Society

Description This course is designed to cultivate in students an awareness of the interaction between the individual artist and the larger community within which they live. Students will be made aware of how the complex mesh of social institutions—social, political, religious, economic, and cultural/intellectual—interact with each other to define the social function of the thing called art and how they all contribute to defining the social role of the artist.
