  • MUS 288-*488 - Jazz Ensemble


    0-1 Credits

    Description
    An investigation of the stylistic characteristics of jazz and popular music through the performance and study of literature for the large ensemble; basic improvisational techniques.

    Prerequisites
    audition and consent of instructor.

    Note
    Two class hours a week. Music majors must participate in ensembles at least seven semesters of their baccalaureate program Students who participate in ensembles must register for zero or one credit. Freshman music majors and declared music minors, until they have accumulated a minimum of 12 semester hours of university credit, may enroll and participate in a maximum of two ensembles only. All ensembles are included in this maximum. Exceptions must have final approval of the chairperson of the Department of Music. Each transfer student must complete a minimum of two credit hours of ensemble participation at Indiana State University before graduation. All music students should refer to the curricular patterns for information concerning ensemble requirements. *Open to graduate students. Graduate students are required to do additional work of a research nature.

  • MUS 300 - The History of Rock


    3 Credits

    Description
    The purpose of this course is to deepen the student’s awareness and understanding of the different ways human experience is reflected in popular musical arts and will emphasize the development of skills necessary to understand western popular music in a meaningful way.  This will be accomplished through the study and evaluation of:  basic music terminology, standard forms used within western popular music, stylistic elements that characterize musical periods and their artists; relationships between music and society; effective listening techniques; and prominent artists and selected works.

    Prerequisites
    Student must have completed a minimum of 48 credits of university course work.

    Restrictions
    Upper Division Electives require 45 earned credit hours or more at time of registration.

    Description
    This course integrates, synthesizes, and reflects on issues of professionalism, professional goals, and professional nursing practice informed through multiple ways of knowing, and experiences grounded in historical, literary, artistic, scientific, and technological perspectives. Issues relevant to contemporary nursing practice and current healthcare trends are explored.

    Co-requisites
    NURC 424 pre or corequisite and NURC 444 pre or corequisite; or NURC/NURS 300 prerequisite and NURC/NURS 444 pre or corequisite
