MATH 403 - Linear Algebra and Modeling for Data Science

Description
Foundations of using matrices, differential equations and other models in modeling. The course takes the theoretical models and focuses on computational solutions and modeling in a modern programming language and modeling environment. Topics include matrices and determinants, systems of linear equations, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, singular value decompositions, orthogonal matrices, mathematical modeling using differential equations, optimization and applications. Focus is on how the models and tools are applied in data science and analytics.

MGT 210 - Entrepreneurship Fundamentals

Description
The course focuses on the process of generating and evaluating ideas and markets that can be developed into a valid business model. Students will work collaboratively to understand the traits of an entrepreneur while analyzing primary and secondary marketplace data with a goal of creating a framework for a defensible business plan. This course requires students to think creatively at a personal and corporate level while gathering the information necessary to assess the viability of their business idea.
Prerequisites
BUS 100 or MGT 140 or consent of department chair and instructor.

MGT 420 - International Business

Description
The course is designed to provide students with a global business perspective in order to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of our interconnected world. In addition, the course also serves to satisfy the global requirement for the program. The course focuses on the opportunities and challenges that firms, both domestic and international, face in the global marketplace with the goal of enabling students to gain insights into the workings of the global private and public organizations / institutions. The framework conditions for global business is defined by political, legal, cultural, economic and ethical factors. Hence, we explore these factors that affect multinational enterprises; and the role of governments, central banks, financial markets, regional and multilateral institutions (e.g., World Bank, IMF, WTO), in shaping the environment for international business. We will focus on understanding theory from the course in light of current events from the political, economic and social arenas impacting businesses.
Students will acquire new knowledge and critical thinking skills through multiple ways, i.e., case studies, in-depth research assignments, and the completion of either business plans or country reports.
Prerequisites
The course requires completion of the pre-business requirements for business majors, Management 301 for nonbusiness majors, or consent of Department Chairperson.

MGT 444 - New Venture Creation Strategy

Description
The course focuses on the process of building a new venture from inception to growth. The challenges of financing, marketing and operations of an entrepreneurial venture will be emphasized in the context of legal, ethical and environmental aspects of creating a new venture. This course teaches students to think entrepreneurially in various contexts and to develop and present ideas related to planning and growing a new venture in a logical and convincing form.
Prerequisites
MGT 210 and BUS 371 or MGT 301 or consent of department chair and instructor.

MGT 461 - New Venture Experience
3 Credits
Description
Students will develop and operate a new venture, participate as a member of a new venture team, or work as an intern with a new venture or company in a new initiative (intrapreneurship).
Each student must submit a plan for how they will complete the course objectives and that plan must be approved by the instructor prior to the beginning of the course.
Prerequisites
MGT 210 and concurrent enrollment in MGT 444 or consent of department chair and instructor.
Restrictions
All students must submit an application to the course that indicates how the student plans to meet the experiential requirements of the course.
Note
This is a required course for students in the Entrepreneurship minor. This should be taken in the senior year, after successful completion of MGT 210 and concurrent enrollment in MGT 444.

MIS 470 - Management Information Systems Capstone
3 Credits
Description
The purpose of this course is to integrate students’ understanding of the role of information systems in supporting organizational decision-making. In prior courses, students were introduced to analytical techniques, current information technologies, and the fundamentals of commerce. As the capstone course in management information systems, the objective of this course is to combine and enhance students’ abilities in these areas. Emphasis is on the internal management of an organization’s information systems and the utilization of information as an organizational resource. Coverage of the subject matter may be through case studies, lectures, class discussion, independent readings, and research.
