CHEM 371 - Environmental Chemistry 3 credits
Description
A survey of environmental chemistry including the atmosphere, surface and ground waters, soils, and selected aspects of geochemistry. Both descriptive and quantitative approaches to a variety of topics are explored. An emphasis is placed upon applications of thermodynamics and kinetics to the natural unpolluted environment as the basis for an examination of the effects of human activities upon these systems.
Prerequisites CHEM 351.

CHEM 465 - Survey of Physical Chemistry 4 credits
Description A survey of basic gas laws, kinetic molecular theory of gases, thermodynamics, mass transport, electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions, equilibrium, chemical kinetics, quantum mechanics, and atomic structure. Does not count toward the ACS-certified chemistry major.
Prerequisites CHEM 106 and 106L; MATH 131; PHYS 106 or 206.

CHEM 465L - Survey of Physical Chemistry Laboratory 1 credits
Description A series of laboratory experiments designed to illustrate and reinforce the basic aspects of chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, and spectroscopy. A lecture component will be used to discuss experimental methodology and to introduce computer-assisted data organization, analysis, and error evaluation.
Prerequisites CHEM 321 and concurrent enrollment in CHEM 465.

CHEM 487 - Bioinformatics 3 credits
Description Provides hands-on training in bioinformatics. Students acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skill required to effectively utilize essential network-based bioinformatics programs and databases, typically accessed from standard laptop computers. Training includes experience with high performance parallel computing and an introduction to problem-solving in bioinformatics using the Perl programming language.
Prerequisites CHEM 351; BIO 102.

Description Designed to familiarize undergraduate education students with the microcomputer as an instructional tool.

CIMT 302 - Teaching II 3 credits
Description General methods of teaching. Emphasis on skill development in basic teaching and content area literacy strategies. Includes integration of national and state standards into planning to teach diverse learners, interdisciplinary curriculum and instruction, cooperative and individualized instruction, integration of instructional technology, performance assessment, and management of the learning environment. Instructional and interpersonal consequences of decisions by both the teacher and the student will be discussed. Field experiences integrated with pedagogical knowledge of teaching.
Prerequisites admission to BCP I and EPSY 202.

CIMT 475 - Critical Thinking in Teaching 3 credits
Description This General Education Capstone Course (GECC) focuses in part on ways in which information and methods of analysis and evaluation associated with liberal studies disciplines can assist future teachers in developing their own perspectives on current important issues in education. The course also introduces means by which these methods of analysis and evaluation can be incorporated into instructional approaches for promoting critical thinking among secondary and adult students.
Prerequisites at least 78 credits and seven of nine required Liberal Studies courses.
