Core Courses (9 credits):


NOTE:


Students may fulfill the remainder of the program requirements through the general program of electives listed below, or with completion of the concentration in labor and reform movements in the United States.

Students will develop their own program of study (a combination of electives, including the thesis, if chosen) approved by the student’s committee chairperson.

Complete the curriculum for the Concentration in the History of Labor and Reform Movements in the United States (24 credits of electives)

History of Labor and Reform Movements in the United States Concentration (24 credits of electives)


Directed Electives (15 credits)


Electives (9 credits):


A combination of electives related to the concentration and approved by the student’s committee chairperson.

Culminating Experience:


Master of arts students must choose one of the following options:

Option I:


In combination with the above requirements, successful completion of a thesis (HIST 699-6 credits) and a final oral examination pertaining primarily to the thesis.

Option II:


In addition to the above requirements, proof of proficiency in one foreign language approved by the Graduate Committee of the Department of History, and a final oral examination pertaining to the student’s course work and research seminar paper. Proof of language proficiency may be met by one of two means as specified by the Graduate Committee of the department:

            1. By having completed 12 credits at the undergraduate level;

            2. By passing an approved foreign language proficiency examination.
