Interior Design Major

Students must complete the following core curriculum in interior design by the end of the sophomore year: Family and Consumer Sciences 150, 151, 152, and Art 102 (or pre-approved equivalent course work from another college or program). Students are admitted into the interior design studio upon submission and approval of a portfolio of visual projects and academic  work. Interior design faculty members consider both of thesein determining admission; students entering the interior design studio will have earned an average GPA of 2.5 or higher in the core interior design courses and have demonstrated creative and technical ability in visual projects. Students participate in a supervised internship in the summer.

(FCS) Core Curriculum:


A 7-credit core of courses is required for all majors and some minors in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. The core courses promote the understanding of the integrative nature of the family and consumer sciences profession with its focus on the interrelationships among individuals, families, consumers, and communities. Students apply this understanding to the study of their areas of specialization.

Note: For several departmental curricular patterns, general education requirements in the biological and physical sciences, the social sciences, or art are specified.
